Washington's favorite bad boys, the Nighthawks are masters of electric Chicago Blues and the kings of sh*t kicking roadhouse rock. They're not called America's Best Bar Band for nothing...
The Nighthawks history is extensive, beginning in the '70s when the band criss-crossed the country playing clubs and colleges then dominated by the sounds of country rock and disco. The band spread their version of roots rock, soul, rockabilly, and blues that was hardly the standard fare. In addition, the Nighthawks were considered touring pioneers, since only a handful of Chicago blues stars were touring nationally, and the west coast blues bands stayed on their side of the Great Divide.
Skip Castro's unusual blend of boogie, swing, rock'n'roll obscurities, and original tunes in a frenetic live show quickly earned them a reputation up and down the Eastern Seaboard as a band to be reckoned with. For a decade, the boys kept up a grueling pace of 200-300 shows a year, drawing big crowds and opening shows for the likes of The Kinks, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Little Feat, George Thorogood and the Destroyers, Kenny Loggins, The Hooters, Bob Weir and The Beach Boys. All good things come to an end however and, in March of 1988, the band called it quits with a series of goodbye shows from Boston to Atlanta. In the past years however, the band has returned to the stage to bring their energetic live shows with all the original members back to their fans!
