Spiritual Rez, the Reggae Horn Funk Party is a 6 piece band who has tirelessly toured the country promoting positive music and attitude. Having released two independent records and with a third due in early Summer 2010, the band has played with international acts like George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic, Toots and the Maytals, Jimmy Buffett, Gregory Isaacs as well as have founding Parliament Funkadelic member Bernie Worrell sit in on their live shows.
The Boston-based band has been described by Tampa music venue Skipper’s Smokehouse as having “the ferocious live energy and bombast of the Red Hot Chili Peppers and PFunk to their own blending chill island grooves with raucous urban tribal vibes.” Winners of the 2007 Boston Music Award for Best World Music Act and Alumni of the prestigious Berklee College of Music: the band provides a unique blend of Reggae, Funk, Afrobeat and Rock to give one of the most energetic live shows around. Independently releasing their self titled debut in 2004 and “Rising in the East” in 2006, the group’s new record “The Nexus” is a reworking of Reggae: With each song giving a new inflection on the style by pairing it with the band’s high-energy flare and organic musicianship.
PLUS don't miss FGC! Emerging from Springfield VA, FGC is raising the bar and setting the pace in the local DMV music scene. In May of 2009, they released their first CD titled "We the People." The compilation of music is a great taste of the upbeat reggae style, heavy guitar riffs, smooth bass lines, and meaningful lyrics that the band produces. After launching the physical CD, the EP was posted on all major download sites including iTunes and CDbaby. What has really made this band gain recognition is their incredible on-stage live performances at local venues like State Theatre, Fat Tuesdays, JAXX, and Jammin Java. Many are impressed by the multi-talents of Dylan Sajbel, who is the drummer and the lead singer. The band has also had great success at the many state colleges of Virginia including JMU, Virginia Tech, George Mason, VCU, and Radford. Guitar player Aaron March commented, “You can’t beat playing a show onstage in front of a sold out crowd. But some of my favorite shows are the house parties. We always end up having a good time because we get to party along with our fans.” Only after a year since they released their first demo, FGC has begun to open for established local bands and national acts like SOJA, Ballyhoo, HR, Mike Pinto, and Murphy's Kids. It’s amazing how this band has evolved from a party band, to a fully fledged professional rock band. The talents of this young ensemble continue to emerge with every performance. Come out and see the band that everyone in the DMV area is raving about!
