From the onset of his career, Stanley Clarke has strived to “liberate” the bass and has succeeded in revolutionizing it from a support instrument to a full-fledged soloing vehicle. Exploding into the jazz world in 1971, Clarke was recognized early on for his ferocious dexterity and complete musicality on the acoustic bass. Young Clarke was able to land jobs with famous bandleaders such as Horace Silver, Dexter Gordon, Pharoah Saunders and Stan Getz. Since then, he has become the first bassist in history to headline sold-out tours worldwide and to have certified gold albums.
Voted Bassist of the Year three times by Bass Player Magazine, Victor Wooten is a virtuoso on the bass. Getting his start as a youngster with his brothers in the Wooten Brothers Band at the age of 5, Wooten is a founding member of Béla Fleck and the Flecktones, a member of the super-group SMV with fellow legend Stanley Clarke, and is successfully helming a solo career. “What Wooten brings to the stage is great candor and excellence. He rips out amazing streams of notes but can also set a funk or jazz groove with precision.” –Innerviews.org
