Jimmy Nalls grew up in Falls Church and cut his musical teeth at local teen dances in the early 60s. He went on to be a local star in such bands as DC Dog before venturing out into the international music scene. First in Macon Georgia as part of the Allman Brothers' spin off band, Sea Level and the studio scene at Capricorn Records and later to Nashville and road work with Country stars like Ricky Van Shelton, Jimmy's guitar was heard far and wide. He joined The Nighthawks, DC's legendary Blues andRoots Rock band, for a three year run from 1988 to 1990. Parkinson's disease cut short his brilliant career.
On April 26 there will be a star studded benefit for Jimmy in Nashville., so The Nighthawks decided to throw a matching event right here in Falls Church at the State Theatre the same night. the Chris O'Leary Band, in the midst of their current CD tour, happened to have the night off between engagements and agreed to join in. Chris was the vocalist/harp man for Levon Helm's band, the Barn Burners and has been touring with his own band the past decade.
